Mercy, kindness and generosity are a rare find and are overlooked in the face of acts of tragic and desperate cruelty. Those who often require greatest amount of care and affection will reject it outright in favor of hating themselves completely. Such a person is difficult to care for, and even more difficult to view as a useful human being. I feel great sympathy for the person who killed him/herself over these anonymous messages, but I also feel a sense of darwinian justice. Someone who is weak enough to die from words uttered by cowards is someone who lacks my personal basic requirements for courage and deserves to die. This person who wrote “You win,” had the great opportunity to face adversity, and emerge a victorious hero, a triumphant champion who defeated his online bullies as well as his own personal demons and self-hatred, but instead decided to turn himself into a corpse. No matter who or what you are, whether you are successful or unsuccessful, because of your great potential as a human being, there will always be another person who wants what you have, or simply wishes to see you miserable. It is your job to overcome your adversaries in the appropriate manner. You will either find your path, or you will die. And if you should die, I will weep for the hero that could have been.
